I heard things like "This happens every January, we aren't worried." and "We are planning to grow the company this year and we are right on track to do that." Then we show up Monday morning and get laid off. I was recently laid off, but in the 4 weeks before the layoff happened, including just 4 days before layoffs happened, I was assured multiple times that my job was secure and that no layoffs would be happening. With themselves and with their employees. With that being said, they are very dishonest. I will start by saying I don't think there is anything malicious about how this company is run. It can feel like the company is just there to feed the egos of leadership so they can go on podcasts and speak at conferences. This hugely impacted profits when I was there which caused low raises. Leaders sell projects for budgets that aren’t possible and then end up having to do work for free. Employees don’t have much say in how the company should be run. Leadership says they are transparent but really aren’t. Apprentices are also not promoted quick enough after being hired. You’re also not guaranteed to get hired after which creates competition between apprentices and anxiety. I’d think if it more like an education program vs a work apprenticeship. When I was an apprentice it was barely enough to get by. If you have no or very little experience it could be valuable for you but the problem is the pay is SUPER low. It’s great if you are transitioning to web design or development and want to learn a lot in a structured environment with support from experts. Company does not sound like it’s in a good position. Also, there were recent layoffs after I left and from what I hear they were not handled well. They preach “family and employee first” but don’t follow it up. People who stay seem to not really be bothered by the pay as they are in an inner circle and content. Feels like all the best people eventually left to get better roles. They don’t like to promote from within and recognize talent. The company is based in a small OH city and their comp is set for that market - no matter where you live.
